Because the sauce is made from scratch, you can adjust the heat! Make it more or less spicy, up to you!

This is the perfect recipe for all these days when you’re busy, tired, or simply don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. It’s great for busy weeknights or lazy weekends. And it’s totally delicious!

What you need for this chicken recipe

Bone-in, skin-on chicken drumsticks or thighs work the best here. You’ll also need a few pantry staples to make the homemade bbq sauce. And it is very easy to prepare.

In this recipe, you just mix all the ingredients, add the oven does the rest. This is what I call magic! 🙂

Here’s all you need for the homemade barbecue sauce:

  • Ketchup – the best you can find.
  • Soy sauce – adds salty, umami flavor.
  • Worcestershire sauce – great to add, but you can add more soy sauce instead.
  • Honey – or brown sugar, maple syrup, white sugar.
  • Garlic – basics. You don’t even need to peel it – just crush.
  • Balsamic vinegar – to balance the flavor. Balsamic vinegar adds great depth to the sauce. You can substitute it with any other vinegar though. Red wine would be the best!
  • Mustard – for extra flavor. You can use mustard powder too.
  • Smoked paprika, bay leaves, cloves, and optionally allspice berries – seasoning.
  • Hot sauce – any you like! And as much as you like. You can use chilli flakes or cayenne pepper instead too.

Chicken legs and thighs make the best meals, especially when cooked in the oven or Crock Pot. #trafficjamweekend

This looks amazing and is exactly what we may be having this evening, except I will be using Chicken Thighs which are juicier than legs.

Thanks for sharing #TrafficJamLinkyParty and have an awesome 4th of July Holiday!
