Bolognese sauce with cream

Who doesn’t like pasta with authentic bolognese sauce? It’s absolutely delicious! The sauce has a deep, rich flavor and silky texture. Slow-cooked bolognese sauce with pasta and fresh, grated parmesan on top is definitely one of the best meals in this world! 🙂

But there are these days when you don’t have time for cooking the authentic bolognese sauce for hours (!). Yet, you still want to eat a bowl of delicious pasta. And you want to eat it fast. This is the recipe for you!

This quick and easy bolognese sauce with cream (or rather tomato-meat pasta sauce to be precise and to not make anybody angry 😉 ) has everything you love about traditional bolognese sauce – rich, flavorful, thick sauce and creamy, silky texture, but, it will be on your table in 30 minutes!

It’s a great fast midweek bolognese option without compromising the taste. I totally love this pasta sauce and recommend it not only when there is no time for cooking! 🙂

Secret ingredients

Okay, so this is not a traditional bolognese recipe and it’s not only because of cooking time. It’s rather a tomato-meat pasta sauce. This is because there are a few different ingredients that I like to add to achieve the truly deep, rich flavor.

These secret ingredients are:

  • Heavy cream or mascarpone – I add it to soften the acidity of the tomatoes and to give the sauce a slightly creamy texture.
  • Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce: it won’t make it taste Asian or weird. It just adds that salty, umami flavor to compensate for the quick cooking time.
  • Honey or sugar – again, to soften the acidity of the tomatoes. It really makes a difference!
  • Smoked paprika powder – just a bit as there’s no bacon here.
  • Dried herbs – such as thyme, oregano, and basil. Always delicious!

You will also need a few pantry staples:

  • Ground meat – the combination of pork and beef is the best, but only pork or only beef is OK too.
  • Onion and garlic – basics.
  • Passata – or crushed tomatoes, canned tomatoes.
  • Tomato pas:
  • Chicken or beef broth (bouillon cubes are OK)

How to make bolognese sauce with cream

This recipe is similar to a traditional bolognese recipe but the cooking time is way quicker.

Here’s the overview:

  1. Heat a large pan or pot with a little bit of oil and cook onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add meat and cook it for a few minutes stirring often, until brown.
  3. Add all the spices, sauces, honey, canned tomatoes, and broth.
  4. Bring to boil and simmer energetically for 30 minutes, stirring from time to time. Without covering the pot/pan!
  5. Add cream and simmer 5 minutes more.
  6. In the meantime, cook pasta al dente according to the instructions on the package.
  7. Add cooked pasta to the sauce and toss everything together.
  8. Serve with grated parmesan on top!

Looks delicious!! Yes, adding sugar or honey to the meat sauce does help take the acidity out. I haven’t tried yet to add the bologna into the dish

I’ve never thought about adding cream to Bolognese sauce. It sounds like it would make it really rich and delicious. Possibly not too good for my waist line…

Oh my word. My mouth is legitimately watering. This looks amazing! I am pinning for later. While I make a decent red sauce, bolognese is not one I have mastered. I must try this!
