Mashed Potato Patties With Green Peas

Although in Polish cuisine potatoes are usually seasoned with chives, marjoram, fried onion or chopped fresh dill, I love to season potatoes with more warming spices. Curry, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, annatto, and chili are my favorites! 🙂

Mashed potato patties (or cutlets, cakes) are quite popular in Poland, or at least they used to be years ago. Now it’s a bit of an old-school dish, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not delicious! These cutlets are amazing! Plus, it’s a great way to use leftover mashed potatoes from the other day.

These mashed potato patties are seasoned to perfection with curry, cumin, turmeric, and chili. They are simple, aromatic, and incredibly yummy.

Combine them with coconut cilantro lime dressing, and you’ll have gorgeous, fresh lunch or dinner. 😀

PS. You can replace coconut cilantro lime dressing with any sauce you like!

Ingredients checklist

Cooking mashed potato patties is easy and calls for a few pantry staples. I guess you have most of these ingredients already in your kitchen.

Here’s all you need to have to prepare mashed potato patties:

  • Mashed potatoes – you can use mashed potatoes from the other day.
  • Green peas – fresh or frozen, cooked al dente. If you don’t like peas, add baby spinach!
  • Onion and garlic
  • Seasoning – chili, curry, cumin, turmeric, salt, and pepper.
  • Oil for frying – any vegetable oil you have. Coconut oil is also great here!
  • Egg
  • Flour – plain wheat flour.

Something that goes especially well with these patties is yellow curry paste. If you have some, feel free to add it! It will be amazing!

And if you want to serve these delicious patties with coconut cilantro lime dressing as I did, here’s what you need:

  • Canned coconut milk
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime juice and zest
  • Rice vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Chili flakes (or fresh chili)
  • Salt

Simple and delicious! 🙂

Wow! These look yummy! I love potatoes and the coconut lime dressing sounds like something I’d enjoy trying.

I’ve had mashed potato patties before but never realized they were a Polish thing.

Thanks for sharing at the Homestead Blog Hop!
