Here’s the recipe for smooth, thick, and creamy Milk Hot Chocolate! It’ll surprise you with intense chocolate flavor without being overly sweet and rich. A delicious treat made with good quality chocolate, cacao powder, whole milk, and cream. You deserve it!

Milk Hot Chocolate

In my life, I’ve made hundreds of cups of hot chocolate. There is nothing better during cold, winter day! Am I right? 🙂

I tried hot chocolate made only with milk, I tried the one made only with cream. I tasted different seasonings – from cinnamon and vanilla to cayenne pepper and cardamon. Dark, milk, semi-sweet, semi-bitter, white chocolate… I tried them all! 🙈😂

This hot chocolate is, in my opinion, the best one I’ve ever tried. It’s seriously delicious! So if you’re on a diet, STOP reading. 🙊

Here’s why this milk hot chocolate is the best:

  • SMOOTH, THICK and CREAMY, but not overly rich and sweet.
  • INTENSE CHOCOLATE FLAVOR thanks to cacao powder and 2 types of good quality chocolate.
  • A bit of SEA SALT compliments the chocolate so well!
  • SUPER EASY TO MAKE. Plus, it REHEATS WELL. You can keep it in the fridge and reheat before serving.
  • Such an INDULGENT TREAT.
  • PERFECT with WHIPPED CREAM, MARSHMALLOWS, OR CACAO POWDER.
  • OPTIONAL SEASONING. A bit of cinnamon or vanilla extract is great, but this hot chocolate tastes delicious without adding any spices!

Did I convince you to try it? 😉

Hot Chocolate Ingredients Checklist

Hot chocolate is simple to make and you just need a few ingredients!

Here’s your checklist:

  • Whole milk – you’ll achieve the best results using whole milk for this recipe. No 0% fat milk, please!
  • Cream – to make the hot chocolate extra smooth and creamy, I’m adding cream. You can use whipping cream (30% fat) or light cream (20-30% fat). The choice is yours, but I recommend using whipping cream!,
  • Good quality chocolate – when choosing the chocolate, choose the best quality you can afford. It makes a difference! I’m using semi-sweet milk chocolate that has 35% cacao and dark chocolate that has more than 60% cacao.
  • Cacao powder – you can use Dutch-process cacao powder or natural cacao powder. They taste a bit different – natural cacao powder is usually more acid, but on the other hand, it has a stronger chocolate flavor. Up to you! I used a natural one.
  • Light brown sugar – light brown sugar is the best here, but any sugar will do.
  • Sea salt – salt goes well with chocolate. You’ll be surprised!
  • Any seasoning is optional. So if you like it, add a pinch of cinnamon, or a bit of vanilla extract.
  • For the most satisfying treat, top your hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows!

Uff, that would be it! 🙂

Wow this sounds incredible but I’m not sure if I would brave enough to add salt to it. I love creamy chocolate! #senisal
