Parmesan French Toast

I used to make French toasts a lot when I was studying. These toasts were always savory and I didn’t call it “French toasts” at all. It was just “fried egg bread” for me! 🙈

Although I like classic French toast seasoned with cinnamon and vanilla, it’s the savory version that has a special place in my heart. 💘

There are so many sweet French toasts recipes out there, that I just have to publish this recipe! For me, savory French toasts are the best and this one is absolutely scrumptious.

Here’s your checklist need:

  • Bread – sourdough bread works the best here. This time I used simple white toast bread and it was a bit too “soft” for me, but still totally delicious.
  • Eggs
  • A bit of milk
  • Mustard – any you like! I used English mustard.
  • Grated parmesan
  • Black pepper, salt + favorite spices – think dried herbs, paprika powder, smoked paprika powder, garlic powder.
  • Butter – for frying.

Optionally, you can also add a bit:

  • Hot sauce – like Tabasco.
  • Soy sauce – for umami flavor.
  • Worcestershire sauce – makes everything better.
  • Steak sauce – or HP sauce.

The best thing about this parmesan French toast is that it’s so versatile! Each time, you can add different spices, a different sauce, and the flavor will completely change! 🙂

Savory French toast topping options

I think I enjoy the simplest version the most – just parmesan French toast with some chopped chives on top. But there are many more amazing possibilities! And all of them are super yummy!

Here’s what you can put on your savory French toast:

  • Tomato salsa – any you fancy… Mexican-style salsa with red onions, Italian-like with fresh basil, or maybe simply chopped tomatoes with green onions and a pinch of pepper?
  • Ham, bacon, chorizo, sausage – so, so good!! I like especially fried smoked ham.
  • Green onions or chives – gorgeous!
  • Fried egg – yep, fried egg on top is amazing!
  • Beans in tomato sauce – I love it! I recently combined my Polish Beans In Tomato Sauce With Sausage with a fried egg and this parmesan French toast and it was ridiculously delicious!

What a difficult choice! 🙈
