Chilli con carne with dark chocolate and coffee. Perfect comfort food! One-pot dinner recipe that can feed a crowed! Made with beef, bell pepper, sweet potato, beans, and corn this easy chilli will warm your soul.

 600 g Ground beef
 1 Red onion
 1 Red bell pepper
 3 Garlic cloves
 1 cup Corn kernels
 800 g Canned good quality tomatoes - crushed, whole, chopped (or 700 g passata)
 800 g Canned red kidney beans (or 2 cups cooked beans)
 1 Sweet potato (or one big carrot)
 1 tbsp Tomato paste
 2 Pieces of dark chocolate
  cup Chilled black coffee
 1 cup Water
 1 tbsp Soy sauce
 2 tbsp Balsamic vinegar (or lime juice)
 1 tbsp Brown sugar (or honey)
 1 tsp Smoked paprika (sweet or spicy)
 1 tsp Sweet paprika powder
 1 pinch Cayenne pepper (or more, to taste)
 1 tsp Cumin
 1 tsp Dried oregano
 1 tsp Annatto powder (optional)
 1 stick Cinnamon
 Salt and pepper
To serve
 Fresh, chopped coriander
 Sour cream
 Rice/Tortillas/French fries/Arepas/Mashed potatoes
 Lime wedges
 Shredded cheddar

Finely chop the onion and garlic.


Heat a large pan or pot over medium heat with a bit of oil, add chopped onions and garlic. Cook until the onion is soft.


In the meantime, chop pepper and sweet potato into bite-size pieces. Add to the pot. Cook for a few minutes.


Add beef, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. Add all the spices (paprika powders, cumin oregano, salt, pepper, annatto, cinnamon). Cook for a few minutes more.


Add water, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, coffee, chocolate, corn, tomato paste, canned tomatoes. Mix and cover the pot. Cook on the low heat 2 hours stirring from time to time.


After 2 hours, add beans and cook for 30 minutes more. If the chilli is not thick enough, cook it uncovered to reduce the liquid, stirring often. Taste and season more if needed.
