Spicy Mango Salsa

This spicy mango salsa is totally addictive! It’s bright, fruity, not too sweet, not too sour, and not too spicy – simply incredible!

It’s so yummy that I treat it more like a salad than a salsa because I don’t need anything else to enjoy it! 🙂 The inspiration for this salsa comes from Peruvian national dish – ceviche, but instead of raw fish, I am using mango!

The trick that takes this mango salsa to the next level is to finely slice the onion and then soak it in super cold water for a few minutes. The taste of the onion won’t be that strong and it works much better in fruity salads!

What you need

This is a simple recipe so the ingredient list is short! You won’t need much to make this delicious spicy mango salsa!

Here’s all you need:

  • Fresh mango – the best you can find! 🙂
  • Fresh chilli pepper – any you like and as much as you like. I used Peruvian aji limo (limo chilli).
  • Red onion – finely sliced.
  • Fresh cilantro – finely chopped.
  • Limes – we need juice!
  • Salt – a bit to season the salsa

This is the base (and my favorite version). Just with these few ingredients you can make scrumptious, summer mango salsa! So fresh and delicious!

If you want to, you can also add:

  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Avocado – for creaminess.
  • Bell pepper – for crunchiness.
  • A bit of honey
  • A bit of fresh ginger – for the extra flavor punch.

How to serve spicy mango salsa

I love to eat this mango salsa alone served in a small bowl – as a salad, a snack, or an appetizer. It’s so bright and full of flavor! 🙂

As a side dish, it works great with seafood, fish, poultry, and pork. Think Carribean, South American, Mexican, Thai, Indonesian, or Filipino food.
