How to make arepas

Arepas one of the easiest foods to prepare! I promise!

All you need are 4 ingredients: precooked corn flour (masa de arepa), water, oil, and salt.

The dough is super quick and simple to make โ€“ no kneading, just mix the ingredients with your hand! It’s ready in 5 minutes! I love how easy it is.

You can eat arepas alone, stuff them, or serve as a side dish! They go perfectly with chilli con carne!

When I make arepas for stuffing, I usually make them quite flat. This way, it’s easier to cut them in half, stuff, and then eat. ๐Ÿ™‚

But when I add cheese inside, I like them quite thick. It’s my personal preference, go with whatever suits you!

So how to make arepas? Prepare a big bowl and mix together (with a hand or spoon) pre-cooked corn flour with water and salt. Then, shape balls, flatten them and fry. That’s it!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Pre-cooked corn flour for arepas

When making arepas, you need to use special, pre-cooked corn flour. There is no substitute. It has to be pre-cooked corn flour. Youโ€™ll achieve the best results by mixing white flour with yellow one.

Any other corn flour wonโ€™t work here! I am sorry. ๐Ÿ™

I know it may be difficult to get this flour in a regular supermarket, but you should be able to buy it online without problems. ๐Ÿ™‚

Arepa flour is specially prepared โ€“ cooked in water and then dried. The flour in Spanish may be called masarepa, masa de arepa, masa al instante, or harina precocida. The most popular worldwide brand is Harina PAN.
